Seduction In Blood

Part 2

~What have I done? What have I done?~ It was a mantra that had started last night after claiming the lives of four teenagers. He looked down at his hands, feeling sick to his stomach to discover that they had been restored to their original perfection. In fact, his whole body had been revived. The blood of the young boys was the cause of that. ~They were so young. . .so innocent. They did nothing wrong. Why did they wake me?~ The vampire sat under a oak tree, hugging, and rocking himself. Tears streamed from the closed eyes and mixed with the rain that was enveloping the lone figure.

When he had waken, all he could think of was the delicious aroma of the blood spilling from the boy's hand. He wasn't fully conscious then. His senses were intact from before he had been buried. It was his senses that caused him to take the boys' lives. The metallic liquid never tasted as wonderful as it did last night. . .mainly because it had been so long since he had the taste of it.

~Not again.~ It wasn't until the fourth boy that he came to fully realize what he was doing and what had happened. It also brought about his harsh reality. . .he was awake again. ~I will find another. I will find another to correct what was wronged. I will not go back to what I was. . .I won't. There has to be another. I will find another.~ He heard someone approaching him. He knew it was a female. He could smell her blood; the closer she got, the stronger it became. . .until she stopped before him.

"Are you okay sir?" She asked softly. The smell was driving him to the edge.

"Go away!" He snapped without looking up at her.

"Are you hurt?"

"No! Just go away!" It was a warning now. He still hadn't regained full control of himself. The smell of the fresh blood was teasing and tempting him in a way he hadn't felt in quite some time.

"Sir. . ."

"Go now!" There was something in his voice that scared the woman, and she continued on her way.

"You know, I'm starting to suspect something fishy here." Duo announced as he handed the menu to the waitress and looked across the table at Trowa. The Latin didn't seem to want to offer any type of add on to the statement. "In just a few hours: you give me a blow job; let me take you; tell me you love me; make me breakfast; and now you're buying me lunch. Are you trying to butter me up for something Trowa?"

"Yes and no."

"Yes and no. Either it is or it isn't."

"Well, some of the things I did because I do love you. . .but the others. . . ."

"Go on." Trowa reached across the table and cupped Duo's hand in his. He stared at the hand he was holding a moment. "Trowa, you're not pregnant, are you?"

"No."

"GASP! And I was so hoping that we could have a child." The smile melted from Duo's lips as he realized that it wasn't helping. "I knew this day was just too perfect. What's wrong?"

"I landed a spot on Wiggims' next dig."

"Trowa, that's great! Why are you bumming on that? Isn't that what you wanted?"

"It was. . .when I thought it was going to be here. . .but it's not."

"Where is it?"

"Cairo."

"How long will you be gone?"

"I haven't decided if I am going."

"But, if you do, how long?"

"Six months. . .but like I said, I don't think I should. . ."

"Go." Trowa looked up into misty violets. "This college is small. There won't be many other chances to go abroad. I know how tough it is to get this chance Trowa. You should take it while you can."

"I don't want to leave you." Duo stood and slid into the booth next to his boyfriend.

"I'll be here when you get back."

"You say that now. Chances are, I'll come back and you'll have found someone else."

"Are you kidding? I would never trade you in for any living human being. Especially since I finally got you so well trained on giving head." Trowa elbowed him in the ribs, but a smile still plagued his lips.

"I can't ask you to wait that long."

"It's not long at all. It'll fly by. Probably by time I realize you're gone, you'll be back."

"I don't know if I should take that as consolidation, or an insult."

"Bottom line, I don't want to hold you back. I don't want you to later on down the road wonder 'what if I would have went on that dig?' It could mean all the difference between you actually pursuing your dream, or end up filing reports at a university library." There was still a hint of doubt in the green eyes. "Look at it this way. . .this will be a test of our newly confessed love. If we can last through the six months without seeing each other, then we can last through anything."

"Are you sure that you're okay with this?" Trowa asked as the lovers were waiting in the airport for the plane to start boarding.

"Of course." The American teased and forced a smile on his lips. "Just don't get cursed, and *don't* bring any artifacts home with you." Trowa lightly ran his finger along the smooth cheek.

"You and your paranormal beliefs." He smirked and kissed Duo's forehead.

"I'm not going to cry." Duo whispered to himself.

"I can always just stay."

"No. I won't hear of that. If you don't get your ass on that plane when it boards, you can forget about getting any of mine."

"Flight A316 now boarding."

"Ready Trowa?" Prof. Wiggims asked as he stood before the two boys. Trowa looked up at the older man and nodded. He and Duo stood in unison and headed for the line that was quickly forming.

"I'll call you before we go out to the site." Trowa informed as he cupped Duo's chin in his hand and pulled the heart shaped face close to his. Their lips met in a deep kiss, and tears spilled from the violet eyes. When they pulled away, Trowa tenderly wiped the tears.

"Damnit. I said I wasn't going to cry." The Latin snickered and Duo noticed the tears welling in the emeralds. "Don't you cry too." He warned and took his boyfriend's hand in his. Duo walked him to the gate, all the while making jokes in hopes of lighting the mood. After handing over his flight ticket, Trowa kissed the back of Duo's hand, and boarded the plane.

The American stepped from the line as he watched the lean frame disappear from sight. He slumped into a nearby chair, still staring at the gate. He already felt alone. It was the first time in a long time that he felt like this. He and Trowa had been together for so long that it was already feeling awkward knowing that he wasn't there. Part of him hoped that the taller boy would suddenly change his mind and emerge back out of the gate. . .but it didn't happen. . .and even if it did, he would make sure to push him right back in.

He wouldn't leave until he could see the plane take off. He stood at the window, staring at the huge air vehicle. Several minutes after the last person board, the jet set into motion. He watch it until it soared from sight, carrying the love of his life to six months of separation. Tears were silently coursing down his cheek, and he wondered how he was going to make it through the next six months with his sanity.

Duo was stirred awake by loud knocking. At first he ignored it, and turned over in bed, figuring that Trowa would answer the door like he always did. . .but as the knocking continued, he remembered that Trowa was gone. He sat up straight in bed and stared at the empty spot next to him for a moment before climbing from under the blankets.

Still half asleep, he staggered toward the front door and unlocked the locks. As the door swung open, he discovered that he was staring at the front page of a news paper. Before he had a chance to even read the headlines, the paper was pulled from his face to reveal Hilde standing in the hall.

"Did you see this Duo?"

"Only for a split second." He snatched the paper from the neighbor and stepped back into the apartment. Without an invitation, the blue haired girl followed him, closing the door behind her.

"Four teenage boys were found dead in the St. Claire cemetery the other night. When the police found them, they were completely drained of their blood, but there was no kind of cuts on any of the boys." Duo's violet eyes widen as he half listened to Hilde, and read the article. "I went out to the site, and guess what else?"

"What?" Duo looked up for the first time, deciding that he would just have to wait until she shut up for him to read the whole article.

"A certain grave had been dug up and found empty." Duo's eyes widen as he stared at his companion.

"Not. . ." Hilde nodded.

"The police believe that the boys were digging up the grave."

"Then the urban legend could be true." Duo whispered as he stared at the picture of the four boys that were found dead.

"Do you think that we should take this to Prof. Shawl?"

"Are you kidding? Of course." The paper was tossed onto the couch and Duo dashed toward the bedroom to dress. Twenty minutes later, they were standing in the office of Prof. Shawl.

"I've read the article." She announced as she sat in her leather chair. "At this moment, I'm trying to pull strings with the medical department of the university in hopes of studying one of the corpses."

"They were brought here?" Duo wondered in surprise.

"One was. Since he was a volunteer at this university, for a medical research program. Our doctors want to make sure that the strange death had nothing to do with the program that they placed him on." She leaned back in her chair and looked over at the braided student. "If I'm able to pull this off, I'm going to need an assistant. . .would you be interested Duo?"

"Does a vampire drink blood?"
